Why a Faith-based Counselor Should Use Caron Renaissance

Counselors, pastors, and other professional who provide addiction-related services to parishioners and the general community should also consider Caron Renaissance as a possible source of help. Caron Renaissance is by definition non-sectarian, but it offers many services which could prove helpful to people from within sectarian groups. Following are several considerations for faith-based professionals:

First, Caron Renaissance fully respects and understands the spiritual diversity in our culture and makes no attempt to undermine or otherwise detract from an individual's deeply held spiritual beliefs. Residents who wish to do so are given the opportunity to attend faith-based observances and to maintain ongoing private devotional activities.

Second, a faith-based professional who refers to Caron Renaissance is given the same high standard of services granted to any referring professional, including updates, progress reports, and full involvement in the treatment and after-care planning process.

Third, the clinical philosophy of Caron Renaissance fits well within the Judeo-Christian* value system and standard teaching of both the Torah and the Gospels. The emphasis on addictions as multi-faceted and interactive lines up well with the faith-based point of view. The emphasis on attachment disorder therapy resonates with accepted spiritual concepts around forgiveness and healing, loving our neighbors, respecting parents and elders.

Fourth, the clinical philosophy of Caron Renaissance is based on the idea that with the right care, the right support, and the right structure, people not only SHOULD change, they CAN, and they WILL. This deep form of optimism inherent to Caron Renaissance is summed up best by the prophet Jeremiah, who reflected God's encouragement to a people in exile with these words: "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."

Fifth, the mission of Caron Renaissance is similar to the mission of most faith-based counseling programs. One local Christian counseling center, for example, states that its mission is "to remove any obstacles interfering with God's call on someone's life, to release people into their call." The Caron Renaissance practice of challenging self-deception, teaching non-enabling, and repairing broken attachments is absolutely in accordance with that philosophy.

Last, because Caron Renaissance is not itself sectarian, it has no ecclesiastical or doctrinal position to enforce. Caron Renaissance is not interested in fostering some new faith-based entity; rather it will make patients better at who they already are.

* The "Judeo-Christian" value system is the predominant base in American culture. However, the non-sectarian approach at Caron Renaissance by nature includes, rather than excludes other expressions such as Islam. In fact, the key principles of peace and respect for others in Islam resonate with the recovery principles imparted at Caron Renaissance. Then too, the close-knitted nature of "mainstream" Islam provides a social and spiritual context to help people form positive, interdependent attachments.
