The Residential Family Restructuring Program represents a "dream come true" for many family systems experts. The Caron Renaissance program brings patients and families into an intensive, live-in family treatment experience. Patients and families share quarters for a period from five days up to one month. This unique setting allows family therapists and other staff work with the patients and families as the family dynamics are actually being lived out. Family issues that may remain hidden often quickly emerge in a healthy clinical setting where they can be addressed and resolved. This speaks to the Caron Renaissance view that "the family is the patient."

The Residential Family Restructuring program seeks at the heart to identify and defeat and reverse generational patterns of dysfunction:

• Avoidance and judgment to self-definition and accountability
• Rebellion and defiance to individuation and positive assertiveness
• "Parental Inversion" (in which children parent the parents) to family balance

Clinical interventions combined with clear instruction on relapse dynamics help patients and families develop new strategies for healthier living and interaction.
