Family Involvement

Family members are usually involved in the treatment process at or before admission. An alliance is formed with staff and the family which greatly enhances the effectiveness of the treatment process. Family members are in regular contact not only with an assigned family therapist, but with the patient's primary therapist as well.  Upon admission, patients will go through a "family detox." This means that there will be no direct contact between patient and family until the treatment team agrees that it is appropriate.  This gives patients the opportunity to become fully involved in their treatment even as family members can begin to focus on their own recoveries. (During this time, of course, exceptions can be made for relevant personal and business matters.) Family members are also strongly encouraged to attend their recovery groups such as Al-Anon and Families Anonymous.

Family members are invited to attend a "family workshop" program as the patient's recovery progresses. This means attending intensive family group sessions with and without the patients. Family members may also be involved in individual interventions which may include "impact visits."  Regular telephone contact with the family counselor and the patient's therapist takes place during the entire treatment process.
