Eating Disorders

Caron Renaissance recognizes that for many, issues with food pre-date the later addictions to alcohol, other drugs and sex. The addiction interaction disorder statement clearly describes the inter-relationship of these addictions. Patients with eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia nervosa, and compulsive overeating attend special “Body Image” groups to explore these issues and develop a solid recovery plan. Those with additional problems due to trauma, anger, and sexual concerns may attend those groups as well. Patients also attend local 12-step recovery groups such as Overeaters Anonymous, and they have access to nutritional counseling as well as physical fitness counseling. Morning “tai chi” sessions tend to have a calming effect while also promoting physical discipline through directed movement exercise. Caron Renaissance primary and family therapists are all familiar with the role eating disorders play in the addictive cycle and are trained to identify and address these problems effectively; utilizing the specialty services groups as needed.
